Carousel Lounge is always celebrated as a great Austin dive bar. I agree that the location itself is just that. It is located in a slightly seedy part of town. The circus decor is unlike anything else in town. The bartender and the regulars are great. The drinks are easy and cheap. It is a perfect place to come and relax with friends.

As a music site, though, the place is just a little too casual. Their website lists shows as starting at either 7 or 9. I guess those are just suggested starting times. I went to a show there that was supposed to feature two bands starting at 9. Instead, it was four bands starting at 10. The band I wanted to see didn't even go on until after midnight. Normally, that is understandable in the music world, but when there was a long lull in the music, the band members were all just sitting around drinking beers. To me, that is a little frustrating.
Once the music started, it sounded great and it was worth the wait. I just wish I didn't have to wait as much.
